Use ← ↑ ↓ → or WASD to slide tiles. Combine matching numbers to reach 2048!
2048 is the viral puzzle sensation that took the world by storm in 2014. Created by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli as a weekend project, this deceptively simple sliding puzzle game has been played billions of times worldwide. The goal is straightforward: combine matching numbered tiles to create the elusive 2048 tile. But beneath this simple premise lies a game of deep strategy and spatial reasoning.
Our enhanced version includes the original addictive gameplay plus an exclusive Infinity Mode that unlocks after reaching 2048, featuring special power-ups and the challenge to see just how high you can go. Whether you're a puzzle novice or a 2048 veteran, there's always a new high score to chase.
Slide all tiles in one of four directions using arrow keys, WASD, or swipe gestures on touch devices. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile with their combined value.
Each move spawns a new tile (usually a 2, sometimes a 4). The game ends when the board fills up with no valid moves remaining. Your score increases with each merge, with higher-value combinations worth more points.
2048 is more than just entertainment—it's a genuine brain trainer. The game develops critical thinking as players must plan several moves ahead and consider multiple outcomes. It strengthens mathematical intuition by making powers of 2 tangible and rewarding. Spatial reasoning improves as players learn to visualize tile movements and manage the limited grid space. The game also builds patience and teaches that careful strategy outperforms impulsive moves, a valuable lesson for players of all ages.
Theoretically, the maximum tile on a 4x4 grid is 131,072 (2^17), but reaching this requires perfect play and extreme luck. Most skilled players consider 8192 or 16384 excellent achievements. Our Infinity Mode lets you push even further!
Reach the 2048 tile in a normal game. Once you hit 2048, you'll be offered the choice to enter Infinity Mode with special abilities, continue normally, or start fresh.
Undo reverses your last move, Bomb removes the lowest tile, Shuffle randomizes tile positions, Double upgrades a mid-range tile, and Wild Card places a high-value tile on an empty space.
To add challenge and unpredictability, there's a 25% chance each new tile will be a 4 instead of a 2. This adds variety and can either help or hinder your strategy.
Yes! Once the page loads, the game runs entirely in your browser. Your high scores are saved locally, so they persist even without an internet connection.
